OVERVIEW:

The Master Electrician is primarily responsible for the maintenance and installation of facilities electrical distribution systems and associated electrical equipment.  The candidate will be responsible for repairs and improvements to electrical service and devices at RTS facilities in accordance with all appropriate codes and regulations.

Secondary responsibilities include performing major and routine repairs typically encountered in maintaining building and shop equipment at a mass-transit facility. The candidate must also demonstrate a level of competency in the general building trades, including carpentry, plumbing, masonry, concrete finishing, and miscellaneous remodeling. The successful candidate will be assigned to complete all tasks within the scope of RGRTA/RTS Buildings and Grounds mechanical work.

 

WAGE: $39.00 per hour

 

Tentative Work Hours: Monday – Friday, 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
  • Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.
  • Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
  • Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes.
  • Prepare sketches or follow blueprints to determine the location of wiring and equipment and to ensure conformance to building and safety codes.
  • Use a variety of tools and equipment such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment including oscilloscopes, ammeters, and test lamps.
  • Install ground leads and connect power cables to equipment, such as motors.
  • Repair or replace wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Work from ladders, scaffolds, powered lifts, and roofs to install, maintain or repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures.
  • Place conduit (pipes or tubing) inside designated partitions, walls, or other concealed areas, and pull insulated wires or cables through the conduit to complete circuits between boxes.
  • Fasten small metal or plastic boxes to walls to house electrical switches or outlets.
  • Perform physically demanding tasks, such as digging trenches to lay conduit and moving and lifting heavy objects.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have a full set of tools to perform all jobs assigned.
  • Must be able to lift at least 75 lbs.
  • A valid NYS driver's license and clean driving record required.
  • Current license as a Master Electrician (Three-phase) issued by the City of Rochester Electrical Examining Board

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED)
  • Candidate must have met all requirements as listed above.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • The ability to assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools
  • The ability to diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem
  • Proficient computer skills, including basic Microsoft Office, Trapeze EAM, Adobe Acrobat Reader
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills
  • Strong time management skills
